Orna Peleg, LCSW

Clinical Social Worker

I work to create a safe, welcoming space where my clients feel connected and supported, allowing them to focus on their therapy. I know from my own experience how tough life changes can be. I help clients explore their emotions and body sensations and how these impact their well-being. I believe that by paying attention to these sensations and feelings, we can discover new ways to navigate challenges, grow, and evolve.

let me share a bit about my style: I view therapy as your personal journey. I'm here to help you develop new knowledge, and insights and to celebrate your "aha moments". I take a direct approach and actively engage in supporting your progress and fostering meaningful change.

Professional

I received my master’s degree in social work from Hunter College School of Social Work in 1996. After I graduated, I worked as a therapist with adults and families in Brooklyn NY. Later on, I worked for a non-profit agency in Israel serving adults with chronic mental health issues. I moved to Boulder CO with my family in 2002. From 2003-2012 I worked in community mental health as a crisis specialist working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing acute mental health crises. From 2013 to 2021, I was part of the team at Boulder Community Hospital's Psychiatric Inpatient Unit, providing brief supportive counseling to clients. During this time, I also served as a clinical assessment specialist at Boulder Mental Health Partners, where I developed expertise in mental health assessments and diagnosis.

Over the past four years, I have gradually transitioned into my own private practice.

Licensure

I attained CO LCSW licensure in 2006. An LCSW is someone who has graduated from an accredited social work master’s program, completed supervised clinical hours (3,360 hours in Colorado), and passed the ASWB’s clinical licensure exam. This is the highest level of social work licensure a person can obtain. LCSWs can practice psychotherapy, form diagnosis, use crisis interventions, and serve in many other clinical mental health roles.

Treatment Focus

I work with the following issues:
  • Depression

  • Trauma

  • Anxiety

  • Relationship Issues

  • Life Transitions

  • Self Esteem

  • Grief and Loss

  • Climate Change Anxiety

  • Persistent Sense of Aloneness

  • Immigration and Cultural Identity Issues

Modalities

I have completed specialized training in the following treatment modalities:

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

SFBT is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. In the most basic sense, SFBT is a hope-friendly, positive, emotion-eliciting, future-oriented vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioral change.

Accelerated Experiential-Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

AEDP is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on healing-oriented techniques and aims to achieve a transformation in client behavior by exploring the in-depth processing of difficult emotional and relational experiences. The ultimate goal is to help clients develop the valuable skills they need to address and deal with their often painful emotional traumas, rather than resort to defensive tactics.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Motivational interviewing is a counseling method that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. It is a practical, empathetic, and short-term process that takes into consideration how difficult it is to make life changes.

Biopsychosocial Assessment

A bio-psycho-social assessment is an in-depth process that examines your strengths, looks at your family history, examines current functioning, takes into account medical issues, and creates a comprehensive treatment plan that can be objectively monitored. This may include evaluation for a mental health diagnosis. I have many years of specialization in clinical assessment.

I strive to be culturally responsive and racially conscious.
